Skilled hands with a caring touch

          Senior Lifestyles Behavioral Health

We all hope our family members will enjoy "the golden years." But, as Senior Lifestyles is geared toward individuals enjoying their "golden years."individuals age, they experience the loss of loved ones, and the stresses that go with losing physical and mental abilities. One out of every four older adults suffers from serious emotional difficulties related to aging, according to national statistics. Most of these emotional illnesses are treatable.

At Senior Lifestyles we offer individualized care in a warm, supportive atmosphere. Our professional team will begin with a very thorough evaluation to help determine what is causing the behavioral and mental changes. We also check for underlying medical conditions. We will then work with the patient, family, and other health professionals to develop a course of treatment. Treatment includes individual meetings with psychiatrists; group therapy with seniors struggling with similar problems; and educational programs. Our nurses, psychiatrists, therapists, and social workers can help with all aspects of a person's life.

Many questions will come up as you consider Senior Lifestyles for yourself or your loved one. We have answered some of the common questions below. However, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time. Someone will be available to take your call 24-hours a day at (573) 472-7490 or 1-800-455-8253.

How do I know if my loved one needs help?
We're your hand in crisis.Signs and symptoms of emotional illnesses include the following:

    · Insomnia or too much sleep
    · Crying spells
    · Poor appetite or overeating
    · Disregard for personal appearance
    · Sad or blank look on face
    · Thoughts of suicide (If you suspect this, seek help immediately)
    · Forgetfulness or confusion
    · Social isolation

Sometimes we have a tendency to think that these symptoms are normal for seniors. These symptoms are NOT normal at any age and many seniors see a dramatic improvement from inpatient treatment.

Who will be caring for me/my loved one?

We use a team approach. Senior Lifestyles employs Registered Nurses and Certified Nurse Assistants, so medical attention is always available. Each patient receives care from a psychiatrist and primary care physician. Our social worker begins working on discharge planning the minute a patient walks through our door. This ensures lasting success after leaving Senior Lifestyles. Our activity therapist conducts the group activities that lead to success.

Will I be able to visit my loved one on Senior Lifestyles?

Yes, we encourage family members to be actively involved in the mental health needs of their loved ones. When one person in the family suffers from a mental or emotional illness, everyone else in the family is affected. We understand this stress and encourage family members to express their feelings and learn new ways to cope with the frustrations. We encourage them to participate in their loved one's treatment process. Our family support groups help to re-establish healthy communication channels that will lead to stronger family ties and happier lives. Together, we can make a difference!

Why do people seek treatment at Senior Lifestyles?

Our patients are admitted for a variety of reasons ranging from depression to the behavioral and psychological complications of Alzheimer's Disease and other forms of memory loss.
