Delta Diabetes Center
2008 Support Group Meetings

The Delta Diabetes Center at Missouri Delta Medical Center presents this support group for people with diabetes and their friends & family.  There is no charge for this service. The meetings are held in the Lower Level Classroom at Missouri Delta Medical Center from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.  Refreshments are provided.

February 25 –Diabetes & Foot Care
It is important to take special care of your feet when you have diabetes.  High blood glucose and high blood pressure can cause foot problems such as poor blood circulation and damage to the nerves.  Join Douglas Foltz, DPM, Foot and Ankle Specialist of Ferguson Medical Group, as he discusses ways to reduce your risk for foot problems.

April 28 – Diabetes and Dental Health
If you have diabetes, you probably know poor control can harm your eyes, nerves, kidneys, heart and other important systems in your body.  Did you know it could also cause problems in your mouth?  Join dentist C W Boyce, DDS as he discusses this topic.

June 23 –Diabetes and Sleep Apnea
Who knew that a good night’s sleep could help manage diabetes?  Obstructive sleep apnea is common among individuals with diabetes and proper identification and treatment may play a positive role in improving glucose levels.  Join Stephen Welton, M.D., Internal Medicine of Ferguson Medical Group, as he speaks on this subject.
 
August 25 – Diabetes Update
Dr. Al-Kilani, Endocrinologist, will be sharing current update on diabetes management.  Participants are encouraged to ask their diabetes-related questions.

October 27 – Healthy Habits – Simple Carbohydrate Counting
Join Nan Thornton, MA, RD, LD, CDE, Certified Diabetes Educator and Registered Dietitian, as she discusses the importance of meal planning.  Focus on carbohydrates and their role in glucose control will be discussed.   

December 15 – Diabetes and Peripheral Arterial Disease
Peripheral arterial disease (P.A.D.) means clogged arteries in your legs.  It raises your risk of heart attack, stroke, and even death.  Join Loring Helfrich, M.D., Vascular Surgeon of Missouri Delta Medical Center as he reviews this subject further.
