Visiting a Patient
Visitors make a hospital stay more pleasant and are important to a patient recovery. Missouri Delta Medical Center recognizes the value of having family support and has incorporated a family-centered design into the layout of each of the newly renovated patient floors. Visitors will find private rooms with large benches to accommodate several visitors or a family member who would like to stay the night.
Guidelines

General visiting hours are 8am-8pm, 7 days per week; some unit specific exceptions are outlined below.

Visitors should enter through Front Lobby unless patient is in the Emergency Department.

Missouri Delta is a no-smoking campus, and visitors should be at least 12-year-old.

A spouse or guardian and at least one support person maybe present with the patient during their stay.

The patient can designate at least 3 support persons in addition to the spouse or legal guardian. These support persons may be changed by the patient at any time during their stay.

Overnight visitors should be limited to two and should be under the direction of the Charge Nurse. A visitor’s pass must be obtained from ER Security desk.

Conditions that may require overnight visitors always include, but are not limited to, the following:

First night of surgery
-
Pediatric patients
-
Critical patient
-
Emotionally upset patient
-
Confused patient
-
Obstetrics
-
Terminally ill
-

Visitation hours are restricted in ICU, Obstetrics and Pediatrics, and Behavioral Health Units (see detailed hours below)

Visitation hours may be restricted for the following reasons:
-
At the request of the patient
-
At the request of law enforcement
-
Due to a court order
-
To prevent disruption of care
-
If the person has signs and symptoms of a transmissible infection
-
Emergency care in critical situations
-
Reasonable cause to suspect danger or harm to the patient
-
If the attending physician documents that visitation is medically or therapeutically contraindicated
-

Visitors may leave and return during the hours of visitation.

The patient’s minister may visit upon the request from the family or the patient.
-
There are no visitor limitations for End of Life as long as the clinical team deems that it is safe and feasible.
Specific Area Visiting Hours:
Telemetry, Medical Surgical and Inpatient Rehabilitation Units:
8 am to 8 pm
ICU Unit Visiting Hours:
4 am – 6 am
10 am – 2 pm
4 pm – 6 pm
8 pm – 10 pm
Obstetrics and Pediatrics:
Labor
Patients in labor may designate adult support persons at bedside during course of her labor. The support person(s) may stay with the patient during delivery.
Post-Partum
8 am – 8 pm, 7 days per week
Visitors should be:
- Fever Free
- No diarrhea in the past 24 hours
- No vomiting
- No upper respiratory symptoms: coughing, sneezing, etc.
- No lesions (fever blisters)
- No symptoms of conjunctivitis (redness or drainage from eyes)
Visitors should not cross between seeing obstetrical patients and pediatric patients.
Behavioral Health Units Visiting Hours:
Senior Lifestyles
5:30 pm -7pm, M – F
1 pm -3 pm, Sat & Sun
Adolescent Unit
5:30 pm – 6:30 pm, M – F
1:00 pm – 3:00 pm, Sat & Sun
Emergency Department
2 visitors allowed at one time; visitors can change throughout the day. Exceptions may be made for end-of-life situations, patients with altered mental or physical status, or for caregiver education/training required for discharge.
Other Guidelines
Please do not visit if you have had a fever, diarrhea, vomiting, rash, sore throat or cold with the last 24 hours. It is important to restrict exposure in order to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. When a patient requests visitation, staff members will provide the visitor with a mask and other protective equipment.

Please be respectful of other patients and talk quietly.

Please dress appropriately; shirts and shoes are required.

Please talk to the patient’s nurse about dietary restrictions before bringing a patient food.
Cafeteria
Visitors are welcome to dine in the cafeteria and vending machines are available 24 hours a day. Vending machines are located in the cafeteria, ER waiting area and the ICU waiting area.

Tobacco-Free Facility
To promote and protect good health, Missouri Delta Medical Center became tobacco-free on August 1, 2012. Patients, visitors, staff, vendors or contractors will not be allowed to smoke on any hospital properties. If you are a patient and concerned, feel free to speak to your physician or nurse about options on how to deal with the tobacco-free policy during your stay
WiFi
Wireless internet access is available throughout Missouri Delta Medical Center. Access will allow families to check email, research medical conditions and keep in contact with loved ones.
