What is Osteopathic Manual Manipulation (OMM)? also known as Osteopathic Manual Treatment (OMT)

Osteopathic Manual Manipulation (OMM) is the trained use of hands to find body areas with reduced function and to utilize techniques to encourage health. Techniques can include gentle touch, muscle relaxation, joint articulation, muscle coordination, and localized movement with high-pressure. OMM is a potential treatment alternative to medication or surgery, but the physician is also able to inject, prescribe, or refer as needed.

Benefits occur for all ages and a wide range of clinical conditions including:

  • Pain related complaints – traumatic, chronic, structural
  • Arthritis, fibromyalgia, lupus
  • Headaches, migraines, TMJ
  • Constipation, irritable bowel syndrome
  • Pregnancy – Low back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Children – reflux, ear infections, scoliosis, asthma
  • Newborn – feeding difficulties (latching/sucking), colic, torticollis, plagiocephaly
