Osteopathic Medicine

What is Osteopathic Medicine

Osteopathic medicine takes a holistic approach to healthcare, focusing on treating the whole person rather than just addressing symptoms. Emphasizing prevention, Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs) guide patients in adopting healthy lifestyles and attitudes that not only combat illness but also help prevent it from occurring.

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) is a hands-on technique that DOs use to diagnose and treat illness and injury, helping the body tap into its natural healing abilities. With OMT, your DO can target muscles and joints to relieve pain, promote recovery, and improve mobility. While commonly used to address muscle pain, OMT can also provide relief for conditions like asthma, sinus issues, carpal tunnel syndrome, and migraines. In many cases, OMT can serve as an effective alternative or complement to medication or surgery.

Benefits occur for all ages and a wide range of clinical conditions including:

  • Pain related complaints – traumatic, chronic, structural
  • Arthritis, fibromyalgia, lupus
  • Headaches, migraines, TMJ
  • Constipation, irritable bowel syndrome
  • Pregnancy – Low back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Children – reflux, ear infections, scoliosis, asthma
  • Newborn – feeding difficulties (latching/sucking), colic, torticollis, plagiocephaly
