Student Sports Medicine Program
Sikeston High School is proud to introduce a new opportunity for students interested in healthcare and athletics through the Student Sports Medicine Program. Now in its first full year, this program has already made an impact on both the students involved and the athletes they serve.
Kyle Lemarr, MS, ATC, LAT, the athletic trainer at Sikeston High School, is marking his second full year working with the Bulldogs and Missouri Delta Medical Center.
Before moving to Sikeston from Northeast Texas, Kyle was fortunate to help lead a similar program, and knew when he arrived in Sikeston that it was something he wanted to bring to this community as well.
This year, Kyle officially launched an interview-based application process for students who wanted to join. The response was overwhelming — now having 16 students participating in the program. These students work closely with Athletic Trainer, Kyle Lemarr during practices and games, learning the behind-the-scenes responsibilities that keep athletes healthy and on the field.
Participants are gaining hands-on experience in areas such as taping wrists and ankles, providing first aid, and learning the basics of sports medicine care. Just as important, they are also developing lifelong skills like communication, teamwork, and time management while working alongside athletes, coaches, and medical professionals.
One of the most rewarding parts of the program is that students get to witness the full process of sports medicine-from the moment an athlete is injured, through treatment, and ultimately to their return to play. This firsthand experience not only builds knowledge, but also shows students the resilience and dedication it takes to recover and compete again.
Kyle is incredibly proud of how far this program has come in such a short time. The students have shown tremendous effort and passion, and look forward to seeing them continue to grow. This program is not just about medicine-it's about preparing young people with skills they can carry into any career or any part of life.
