What is Specialty Pharmacy?

Specialty pharmacy is a niche branch of pharmaceutical care dedicated to complex, high-cost medications that often require special handling, administration, or monitoring. It goes beyond the scope of traditional pharmacies by focusing on medications for chronic and rare conditions like cancer, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis, and others. Specialty pharmacies offer comprehensive support, including personalized medication management, patient education, coordination with healthcare providers, insurance assistance, and often provide services like medication delivery, temperature-controlled storage, and 24/7 access to pharmacists for patient support. They aim to optimize treatment outcomes, ensuring patients receive the right medication, education, and ongoing support tailored to their specific health needs, ultimately enhancing their quality of life while managing complex health conditions. 

Missouri Delta Medical Center aims to provide white glove service to our patients and provide this additional support for these unique medications. Specialty pharmacy accreditation is also a very important aspect that our pharmacy will begin in the Summer of 2025. This process can take months to accomplish, and we hope to obtain two separate accreditations, URAC and ACHC.
